凡尔赛宫位于法国巴黎西南郊外伊夫林省的省会凡尔赛，1682年由太阳王路易十四开始建造，分多阶段完工，在此期间的凡尔赛宫超越了巴黎，成为了法国实际意义上的首都。 凡尔赛宫有着寝宫、花园、美术收藏库、辩论场、剧场、情报中心和政治会议室等诸多功能，是一座兼具观赏性和实用性的宫殿，以金色、蓝色和粉橘色为主基调，倾其所能表现“绚烂豪华的奢侈美”，这种风格被后世称为“巴洛克”风格，不过在其后任法国国王路易十五的末期和整个路易十六时期，还加入了一些甜美风格“洛可可”装饰。到了20世纪以后，法国因为进入共和政府，皇室被废除，于是改建为博物馆对公众开放，一跃成为法国著名景点和文化遗产。并在1979年被联合国教科文组织列为世界文化遗产。
