If you have the opportunity, a tour of Tovrea Castle is very worthwhile. I tried unsuccessfully to get tickets twice through the lottery. After occasionally checking the website, I lucked out and sec… IlliniTrav的完整评论

Hi, Does anybody know what the ticket prices are? The website only states they are SOLD OUT. I just want a ball park range of what the ticket prices are. Are we talking $10 or $100? Nobody seems to post this.
答:
Tickets for regular tours are $20 - $25 per person; special events and fundraisers are higher. We are currently sold out through August 2020.

Just wondering if the place is ever rented out for a business function? Looking for an early December Saturday for a few hours to serve a luncheon and have a financial advisor. It is an annual function in which Josh Levine also appraises antiques. Lasting maybe 2/3 hours.
答:
Yes, outdoor event spaces are available for rent. Interior locations are not rented out.

I will luckily have a chance to visit Phoenix in December from Asia and just discovered this piece of delicate gem in the desert but was sad to see that all tickets are gone already. If I cannot go inside, is the castle still accessible from walk so that I can at least take a picture from the outside? Thanks a lot.
答:
You could take a picture from the parking lot but you can't get close to the castle without a ticket.

"The Carraro Story" that was just posted is beautifully written. The only thing I'd add is that there is a very interesting story involving the Carraros and the Tovreas. Tovrea owned the cattle stockyards next door, just to the West (where the main U.S. Postal Processing Center in Phoenix currently resides), and seemed to take great pleasure in causing havoc for Carraro's dream of a luxury resort on the hill outside Phoenix. They were NOT friendly neighbors. They were more like Arizona's version of "the Hatfields and the McCoys". I mean... who would want to sit outside on the veranda to take in the 360 degree view of the valley, only to breathe the aroma of Cattle dung?! When Carraro was forced to sell the property, Tovrea's wife secretly bid on the property under her maiden name so that Carraro would not know it was, in fact, Tovrea who was buying the property. Mr Tovrea passed away about a year later, leaving Mrs. Tovrea alone, living in the castle into the late 60's. The docents on the tour talk about this history and add details of the isolated and sad life she experienced alone on the top of the hill. The tour clarifies why the historic structure is called "Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights". Very interesting for history buffs. Oh, and if you're traveling the back-roads of Arizona, heading up the back route to Prescott through Wickenberg and Yarnell, you can visit Carrao's Grotto on Shrine Road in Yarnell. I do not know how the Yarnell Fire, a couple of years ago, affected the Grotto. It burned all around the Shrine of St Joseph and burned some of the homes on Shrine Road.
