The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall on eye ointments by multiple brands over "lack of sterility assurance" at the facility in India, where the products were being manufactured.

Ointments have the advantage of increased dwell time in the eye, but often patients and parents of children prefer drops, and no therapeutic advantage of one over the other has been demonstrated.
