Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently introduced a $3 billion plan to “fix the damn roads,” her 2018 gubernatorial campaign promise.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer wants the Legislature to work with her on a plan to increase road fixes by $3 billion a year. Her plan seeks $1.7 billion in new corporate taxes and $470 million from a marijuana wholesale tax.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday unveiled her $3 billion “MI Road Ahead” Plan, her latest pitch for “fixing the damn roads,” which was her signature campaign promise during her first gubernatorial campaign in 2018.

Whitmer said at the Detroit Auto Show that a new road funding plan would need to include new revenue sources, plus fiscally responsible spending cuts.
