Hitler resented this term as it made Germany vulnerable to invasion. In 1936 Hitler boldly marched 22,000 German troops into the Rhineland, in a direct contravention of the Treaty of Versailles.

Germany's troops are back in the Rhineland, and I think they will stay... Most statesmen, I think, will recognize that there is much to be said for Germany's re-occupation of its own territory.
