BMW was one of the first car manufacturers to debut a mass-market EV, the i3, in 2013. Like every non-Tesla EV from that era, the i3 was a quirky, hatchback-type thing with a city car range.
Unlike all other electric cars in the segment, the BMW i3 is built on a unique platform. It consists of an aluminium chassis and a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) body, bonded together.
Luckily, 2025 is starting out with a bang – after the big 7 Series and i7, plus the mid-sized 5 Series and i5, BMW is preparing for the arrival of the all-new 3 Series and the reborn i3.
