Women made up 12.6% of all U.S. sworn police officers in 2018. [1] . Employed largely as prison matrons in the 19th century, women took on more and increasingly diverse roles in the latter half of the 20th century.

Women serve in all ranks in our department, including top leadership positions. Women are historically under represented in law enforcement; currently women sworn police officers make up only about 15% of our department. We are committed to improving this percentage.
