Every year, thousands of soldiers — from Israel and all around the world — join the Israel Defense Forces. The one thing that nearly all IDF soldiers have in common is their draft day experience. What’s the first day like?

The IDF is the people’s army, the State of Israel’s military, subject to the law and government of the State of Israel. IDF soldiers will operate with their mission, the IDF’s values and the security of Israel as their priority.

Other Israeli Arabs, religious women, married individuals, and those deemed unfit medically or mentally are exempt from compulsory military service. Regardless of those exemptions, many of those exempt from military service do volunteer to serve in the Israel Defense Forces.

2015年3月31日 · Since its formation on May 31, 1948, the IDF has been a compulsory service military. The IDF was founded in the wake of the War of Independence as the new State of Israel was fighting for its existence, and needed every soldier it could recruit.
