2013年8月16日 · CPT 44144 would apply perfectly if surgeon had resected any bowel but he did not. Only performed a diverting sigmoid colostomy and a sigmoid colon mucous fistula formation. "Not amenable to resection at this time." Anyone know if 44144 can still be billed if resection not performed? Or should it just be billed as 44188, lap colostomy?

2013年6月14日 · Thanks for the reply. My colostomy was 3 years ago, it was also an emergency. The mucous fistula on the opposite side had a tube inserted into it. The doctor said it should stay in but it fell out on its own about a year later. It was held in with a tiny balloon. The fistula needs more attention than my colostomy. It's a real pain in the neck.

2015年3月18日 · So, we proceeded with fascial closure with a 1.0 PDS suture. We started to close the incision from the top to the bottom, 3 total PDS sutures were used in the fascia. The fascia came together nicely without tension. Next the end colostomy and mucous fistula ostomy were matured, and sutured with 3-0 vicryl. Ostomy appliances were applied.

2014年11月13日 · If you are concerned that the mucus fistula is infected, have you asked that a culture be taken from it? This is a common test for infection and provides both the organism grown from it as well as suggestions of antibiotics that are effective. I had a mucus fistula after surgery which eventually closed without intervention.
