Rostam Mirkarimi (born 1961) is an American politician and the former sheriff of San Francisco. [1] Prior to being sheriff, he served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, where he represented District 5. Mirkarimi is a co-founder of the Green Party of California.

Ross Mirkarimi (pronounced Meehr-kah-reem-e), was elected San Francisco District 5 Supervisor in 2004, and reelected in 2008. In 2009, he was appointed by the State Senate to the California Coastal Commission, one of the most powerful land-use bodies in the United States.
