2023年5月30日 · Samadhi Cushions, for decades Shambhala's flagship manufacturer of meditation cushions, and the sole purveyor of the gomden, the infamous parallelepiped cushion invented by Chogyam Trungpa, has gone dark. All items on Samadhi's Amazon storefront are suddenly marked, "currently unavailable".

Shambhala meditation instruction is deliberately incomplete because they want you coming back for more. They want to hook you into the endless cycle of classes. They need your body occupying space in their shrine hall in order to validate their message to the public.

2022年1月15日 · Shambhala switched to gomdens many years ago. Personally I found them uncomfortable and never got used to them, but some people like them. Zafus give you more flexibility if you want to tip them, add cushions, etc.

CTR's son, Sakyong Mipham, was running things. A few years ago there was more scandal and SM left. SM now teaches his own students -- anyone who was with Shambhala and wanted to stick with him. So that's now a separate sangha. The organization of Shambhala still exists and some centers still exist. They still have authority to teach Shambhala ...

2016年8月19日 · Hi folks. I really liked insight timer for a long time until they recently revamped it. The features I enjoyed were being able to set the number of bells/chimes before and after the session; having a "do not disturb" function while the timer's running, and also (this is the one they recently did away with), the ability to set a delay before the first bells that begin the session.

2020年8月6日 · Chogyam Trungpa founded it, creating Shambhala as an alternative to Buddhist practice for people who were put off by religion. (CT was trained in Kagyu/Nyingma and was head abbot of a series of monasteries in Tibet.) Over time, Shambhala became more popular, but both Shambhala and Vajradhatu (Tibetan Buddhism) were going on in the same sangha.

2017年10月31日 · I am very interested in Buddhism and the mental health benefits of meditation, and from what I read here it sounds like Shambhala is a mostly secular branch and might be a really good path to follow; at the same time, there was a chant at the end of the sitting with strongly symbolic and religious overtones that made me a little nervous.

2023年12月27日 · I'll be staying in Ramana Ashram and a friend who's familiar with the ashram has suggested I get an inflatable meditation floor cushion since the floors are all concrete. I usually meditate with a bench and a zabuton-style floor cushion, and can't really sustain cross-legged posture (not to mention lotus).
