Featuring a stiff blade with a broad fuller, straight and tapering cross, and a faceted wheel pommel, this sword is an early example of what would later become known as the European Longsword or Bastard Sword.

Most 12th-14th century blades seem to vary between 30 and 32 inch blades. As a rule, arming swords began to polarise in design forms from the late 12th century, becoming either increasingly squat and heavily pointed, or longer and heavier in design.

Used during the 12th century, especially by knights mounted on horses, they featured longer, slimmer blades that were thinner toward the tip.
