Bonanza is an American Western television series that ran on NBC from September 12, 1959, to January 16, 1973. Lasting 14 seasons and 432 episodes, Bonanza is NBC's longest-running Western, the second-longest-running Western series on American network television (behind CBS's Gunsmoke), and one of the longest-running, live-action American series.

Bonanza, the first western broadcast in colour, recounted the story of the Cartwrights, a fictional family of ranchers living in the mid-1800s, near Virginia City, Nevada, an actual mining boomtown.

The main cast includes Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker, and Michael Landon. Hop Sing was the Cartwrights' happy-go-lucky cook, whose blood pressure rises when the family comes late for dinner. He was an influential character to the Cartwright household.
