Canola meal is an economical alternative to higher-cost ingredients for poultry – particularly laying hens – where it’s proven to support high levels of egg production. It’s also a great fit for broiler and breeding chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese.

Canola meal is one of the most widely used protein sources in animal feed for livestock, poultry and fish. It has an excellent amino acid profile, including high levels of methionine, lysine and arginine, plus it is rich in vitamins and essential minerals.

Rapeseed meal, called canola meal in North America, Australia and some other countries, is the by-product of the extraction of oil from rapeseed (Brassica napus L., Brassica rapa L. and Brassica juncea L., and their crosses). It is a protein-rich ingredient that is widely used to feed all classes of livestock.

Canola meal provides a 2:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids and is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Canola oil is sometimes used in diets to enrich the fatty acid profile of milk, meat or eggs (Gallardo, et al., 2012; Gül, et al., 2012; Chelikani, et al., 2004). The carbohydrate matrix of canola meal is quite complex (Table 4).

Canola and rapeseed meals are commonly used in animal feeds around the world. Together, they are the second most widely traded protein ingredients after soybean meal. The major producers and users of canola and rapeseed meal are Australia, Canada, China, European Union and India.

2023年11月7日 · Canola meal is a by-product of oil extraction from canola seeds. New varieties were developed with reduced concentrations of glucosinolates and referred as canola in Canada and United States, and double-low rapeseed or 00-rapeseed in Europe.

Crude protein in the finished meal is positively correlated with canola seed protein content and negatively correlated with oil content as shown in figure 1. Climatic growing conditions significantly impact on canola seed production and the composition of resulting canola seed.
