2015年11月2日 · I have used a Dremel and grinding stone to remove excess matrix. It throws tons of dust and is not precise enough to use close to the fossil. The many available configurations of stones make the Dremel useful for smoothing matrix for a nice "finished" look for a prep. Some Forum members have reported prep applications using a wire brush.

2024年9月19日 · MrFrog, I, too, use the Dremel 290 with the Zoic tungsten tips for prepping fossils, besides other tools. Those tips make all the difference. The posts above have given you the best advice and tips, IMO, so I can't really add much to those. But there has been one bright light bulb technique that has really helped improve my results.

2010年5月8日 · Depends on the preservation. Most fossils are calcite or silica and should withstand the cleaning as long as you dont keep the tool on one spot too long.
