If you're not using camera/ADC/bluetooth/Ethernet, just go with the ESP8266. For digital input/outputs, power, speed, and every improvement is irrelevant.

2021年12月28日 · With the ESP8266 it might get too complicated with inputting the WiFi credentials OTA. I understand it can be done by using it's IP address and there have been consumer products made using the ESP8266. The extra speed that the ESP32 brings would be useful, and it would be simpler for the user to complete the initial set up using Bluetooth.

2020年12月3日 · Although the ESP32 is currently overkill for WLED, it is a future proof platform and at ~$5 each, they're a great value. Future versions of WLED will most likely support multiple output pins, with the ESP8266 possibly limited to 2, while the ESP32 would be capable of a lot more. I use the LOLIN D32 boards.
