The Glenn (or bidirectional Glenn) procedure is an operation to improve how blood flows through a heart that has a small left or right side (either the valve that connects the upper chamber to the lower chamber or the pumping chamber itself).

The bidirectional Glenn (BDG) shunt, or bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis, is a surgical technique used in pediatric cardiac surgery procedure used to temporarily improve blood oxygenation for patients with a congenital cardiac defect resulting in a single functional ventricle.

The Glenn procedure is done for children who are born with heart problems like hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), tricuspid atresia, and double outlet right ventricle. Depending on the heart problem, children may need the Norwood procedure before the Glenn surgery.
