The history Panagia Larniotissa is based on a miracle that happened a few hundred years ago, when pirates used to attack Karpathos island. During one attack, they kidnapped a young boy and from that moment on his mother started praying for 30 years, hoping to see again her son.

They are the foundations of an older church of the 7 th century that had built on the ruins of an ancient sanctuary. The visitor can rest on the benches under the large, 600-year-old oak. In the precinct, there are two calabashes with an inscription that informs about the miracle of Panagia.

2018年9月21日 · The interior of the church, inside a natural cavity of the Platanus tree, you will find the depiction of the icon of Panagia holding baby Jesus. The icon is identical to the one at the Monastery of Megalou Spilaiou- it is actually identical but the reverse of it.
