2011年6月8日 · The first Highway Patrolman (before model numbers) was made in 1954. It is a five screw model. 4 in the side plate and one in the trigger guard. In or about 1956, the top most side plate scew was eliminated and it became the HP 4 screw. It became the Model 28 in 1957. There are model number marked and non model number marked 4 screw HPs.

2024年9月17日 · A Model 28 will say "Highway Patrolman" on the right side of the barrel, along with an odd design and "357 CTG" The model number won't be on the barrel, but a gun with an N prefix is new enough that the model number will be stamped in the notch of the frame where the yoke pivots, (open the cylinder to see it).

Seems wherever I go on the internet, I am told you can find the serial number and age in the "Smith & Wesson Standard Catalog". All I want is the age of the thing.

2024年12月7日 · Model 28's. Great guns. My second favorite. S&W does not nickel-plate the rear sights on any revolver--always been left in the black. An "N" is stamped on the cylinder rear and on the left side of the grip frame to indicate a factory nickel finish. If those two stamps are missing, you can surmise the revolver was nickel plated by a 3rd party.

2019年5月1日 · In 1969 the prefix was changed to "N". Originally called the Highway Patrolman it became the Model 28 in 1957, the 28-1 in 1960 and the 28-2 in 1961. The 28-3 was introduced in 1982 and in 1986 the Model 28 was discontinued. This from the edition 3 of the SCS&W. My 28-2 was shipped 11/62.
