Pulley or Sheave???? - Practical Machinist
2008年1月18日 · "A sheave (pronounced "shiv") is a wheel or roller with a groove along its edge for holding a belt, rope or cable. When hung between two supports and equipped with a belt, rope or cable, one or more sheaves make up a pulley. The words sheave and pulley are sometimes used interchangeably." And that's how I've always understood it, too.
Single pulleys vs multi-sheaved pulley - Practical Machinist
2007年4月1日 · The Leblond has a 3 sheave pulley and I have had zero luck in finding a 3 sheaved motor drive pulley. My plan is to use two single pulleys--not step pulleys--exactly the same--and run the lathe off the outside sheaves of the lathe drive pulley--that way I can keep the distance between pitch the same.

2005年1月1日 · The force on the axle of the pulley will be different. In the vertical case, the force on the axle due to the pulley will be 1800lbs, straight down. In the horizontal case the force on the axle due to the pulley will be the vector sum of 900lb down and 900lb to the side. That is, 1273lb down and to the side.
General | How to size V-belts vs. HP - Practical Machinist
2004年7月23日 · One with a calculator can reconstruct these figures working from HP transmitted to driving pulley diameter and RPM. That said: The Gates Heavy Duty V Belt Drive Design manual shows that a "A" V-belt section will transmit about 2.2 HP per belt for a minimum pulley OD of 3" at 1750 RPM. Derate non-linearly for smaller diameter.
Pulley / Sheave for a Potter's Wheel - Practical Machinist
2014年8月12日 · I am currently trying to find a replacement pulley/sheave for a used potter's wheel, (I've attached pictures) and I have some questions. The old wheel is 11.75" in diameter with a fixed 1" bore secured with two set screws. I'm not certain what ferrous metal it is made from, but it is hollow(for lack of a better word), and weighs only 3.6 pounds.

2013年5月13日 · The bearing you describe for the speed adjusting pulley that you mentioned was bad in yours is the same way with mine. My motor shaft was the full 1.000 size at one time and it was evidently turned down to 15/16 where the adjusting pulley slides. I haven't removed the fixed motor pulley yet, but it appears to be the original 1.000.
Interesting (?) Wood Flat Belt Pulley - Practical Machinist
2004年8月25日 · Mixing a low density wood like poplar with a high density wood like hard maple is sort of like building a cone sheave with alternating layers of soft brass & steel. Could look distinctive, probably work ok, but the wear might be uneven, and the coefficients of expansion are different enough to casue stability issues over time.
General | Removing a VS pulley - Practical Machinist
2002年2月19日 · Try as I might I can't find any sort of setscrew holding this VS pulley to the motor shaft. I haven't enlisted any help in opening up the pulley against the spring to see if it's under the slip area but that's about all I've got left. The motor is a Doerr and the VS seems pretty good, something like a Lovejoy but with no visible means of ...

2022年8月15日 · Want to transmit the most force when extracting a sheave off the inner face plate. I have two sheaves that fit onto a face plate 1.125 bore. The face plate has three 1/4-20 tapped holes. These are for mounting the sheave. The sheave has three 0.265 straight through holes for mounting to the...

2004年4月19日 · Basically icehd81 is correct. There is most assuridly a formula out there but you really shouldn't need one.Let's say for the sake of conversation you have one pulley that is 15" in diameter and the other is 5" in diameter. That's a ratio of 3 to 1.In other words if the motor has the 5" pulley on it and it is turning(the motor)1500 rpms then the driven pulley on the piece of …
