In Osteopathic Cranial Manipulative Medicine, strain patterns are somatic dysfunctions of the sphenobasilar synchondrosis (SBS), occurring when normal physiologic motions of flexion and extension are altered. Strains are named by the motion of the sphenoid and characterized as physiologic or pathologic.
