It is also a lot easier to get high levels of power out of (bolt on an exhaust and carbs to the 3.0 and get 200 HP for that quarter-million miles) than the Type IV is, as it was designed from the outset to be a more powerful engine. If you just need an air-cooled car, the Type IV is the way to go I think.

You won't find many of the engine series Rob listed in the US (we only got one 1300, the 1966 F) and others like our AE and AK are missing from his list.
