I liked the descend mechanic and made a deck around it, I used treasure cards at first they did not work so switched to basic tap and sacrifice stuff. I was taught to descend once the turn to base was completed. This worked perfectly at the international airport where I learned, but it set me up for failure when I started flying into smaller airfields on my own, particularly when there were restrictions on how far downwind aircraft were permitted to fly, or when flying tighter circuits.

When my VATSIM facility does high/low splits in the center the high sector descends guys at discretion to FL240. The low sector then gives them the descent via the arrival or descend instructions to cross a fix. In both cases its basically on the pilot to descend when they need to or want to but the controller still doesn't want to hear a request.

The theoretical alternate templating of "You descend if a permanent would be put into your graveyard from anywhere" would not actually function as intended because cards discarded from your hand or milled from your library cannot be permanents, even if they are permanent cards. For the mechanic to work, it had to specify permanent cards.

What does Descend instruct me to do? Nothing, because it's a value check, not an activity I can do. There are previous ability words, which check for things in graveyard. Delirium for number of card types, Threshold whether you have 7+ cards. Both are nouns. If Descend X was Descent X it would be in line with the others.
