As far as movement of the stitch goes, it’s a combination of the twisted chain stitch and the feather stitch. It creates a pretty zig-zag line that takes gentle curves well. You can mix up double feather stitch and regular feather stitch to achieve a looser, free-flowing feather stitch. With a stitch like the fishbone stitch, to keep the integrity and clarity of the feather (or any other shape you might be filling in) and the shading, the stitches shouldn’t be too crowded that they overlap.
