Today is the anniversary of William Wallace's execution in 1305 - Scotland's National Hero. It's hard to believe that anybody would have betrayed such an iconic figure, but that's exactly what happened at Robroyston just outside Glasgow (which has nothing to do with Rob Roy Macgregor). Sir William Wallace had been fighting a guerilla campaign against occupying English forces for almost 10 years at this point. Myths and legends grew around him and we know more of those than we do of the real man.
