I have always wanted a sweet gum tree, but my yard is very small and the straight native species gets 40 to 50 feet wide and tall. But there is a naturally occurring hybrid called slender silhouette that gets about 5 to 6 feet wide and 40 feet tall. They drop very hard round seed balls that have little spikes on the outside so I wouldn’t put this where there are going to be little kids running around in their bare feet or near a patio or walkway.
