Ad. Our house and garden is in London which basically means clay soil. Our garden is also North facing which isn’t ideal, but when we bought the house I couldn’t have given two hoots about which way the garden faced, or indeed the garden in general, but now it’s a totally different story now (I’m now 55 and gardening is basically life these days 🤣). Basically from October to April it becomes very muddy and pretty much impassable- which isn’t hugely practical given we have a gorgeous garden room

Clay soil is AMAZING at retaining moisture— which over a rainy winter season can cause root rot in your perennials if they are planted too deeply.
